Google Sinya Fujji; he is doing research at the Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies, Kyoto University, Japan. His areas of specialty include drummers’ use of sticks, wrist action, etc.

What’s significant is that Fujji is bringing research attention to drumming through the world of motor control. His papers have been published in Motor Control, the International Journal for the Multidisciplinary Study of Voluntary Movement. (http://hk.humankinetics.com/mc/journalAbout.cfm)

From their website, you can enter Fujji’s name in the SEARCH field to see a display of his papers.

With all the potential that the drum set holds for coordination studies, Fujji’s work is laying excellent foundation for progrss in this area. This is very exciting to see, and hopefully, more researchers will follow his lead.
